William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850) was an English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads (1798).. Wordsworth's magnum opus is generally considered to be The Prelude, a semi-autobiographical poem of his early years that he revised and expanded a number of times. The poems in themselves are some of the most influential in Western literature, but the poet’s views as expressed in the preface to the second edition hold the honour of being the most important work of the English Romantic Movement. ‘Lyrical Ballads’, published with Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1798 remains one of his major works till date. In 1798, Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge jointly published Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems, a collection of verses each had written separately.The book became hugely popular and was published widely; it is generally considered a herald of the Romantic movement in English literature.
